The Series

The series Advances in Psychotherapy -- Evidence-Based Practice provides therapists with practical, evidence-based guidance on the diagnosis and treatment of the most common disorders seen in clinical practice -- and does so in a uniquely reader-friendly manner. Each book is both a compact how-to reference on a particular disorder, for use by professional clinicians in their daily work, as well as an ideal educational resource for students and for practice-oriented continuing education.

The most important feature of the books is that they are practical and reader-friendly. All have a similar structure, and each is a compact and easy-to-follow guide covering all aspects of practice that are relevant in real-life. Tables, boxed clinical pearls, and marginal notes assist orientation, while checklists for copying and summary boxes provide tools for use in daily practice.

The series has been developed and is edited with the support of the Society of Clinical Psychology (APA Division 12). The Society is planning a system of home study continuing education courses based on the series that an individual can complete on the web.

About the Editors

Series Editor Danny Wedding, PhD, MPH, Professor of Psychology, California School of Professional Psychology / Alliant University, San Francisco, CA Danny Wedding trained as a clinical psychologist at the University of Hawaii. He is currently Associate Dean for Management and International Programs at the California School of Professional Psychology / Alliant University. Dr. Wedding is the author or editor of 12 books and is editor for PsycCRITIQUES: Contemporary Psychology–APA Review of Books.

Associate Editor Larry E. Beutler, PhD, Professor, Palo Alto University / Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, Palo Alto, CA Larry E. Beutler is Distinguished Professor, Chair, and Director of Training at the Palo Alto University / Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto, CA, and also Consulting Professor of Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Beutler is the former Editor of the Journal of Clinical Psychology and of the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. He is Past President of the Society for Clinical Psychology (Division 12 of APA), of the APA Division of Psychotherapy (Division 29), and of the Society for Psychotherapy Research. He is the author of approximately 300 scientific papers and chapters, and author, editor, or coauthor of 14 books on psychotherapy and psychopathology, with other books currently in preparation.

Associate Editor Kenneth E. Freedland, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical Health Psychology, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO Ken Freedland is a Professor of Psychiatry and Clinical Health Psychology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He is an Associate Editor of Psychosomatic Medicine, on the editorial board of Health Psychology, and the author or coauthor of over 120 published articles and book chapters and 110 published abstracts. His research focuses on the role and treatment of depression and related problems in heart disease. He is a member of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, a fellow of the Society of Behavioral Medicine, and a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Freedland was a CBT supervisor for ENRICHD and has supervised several other clinical trials of CBT for patients with heart disease or other medical illnesses.

Associate Editor Linda Carter Sobell, PhD, ABPP, Professor, Center for Psychological Studies, Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL Linda Sobell is Professor in the Center for Psychological Studies, Nova Southeastern University, FL, and is internationally known for her clinical research in the addictions field, particularly brief motivational interventions. She has received several awards, given over 200 invited presentations/workshops, and published over 250 articles or book chapters and 7 books, as well as serving on several editorial boards. Dr. Sobell is a Fellow in the American Psychological Association, holds a Diplomate in Behavioral Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology, and is Past President of the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy and the Society of Clinical Psychology (Division 12 of the American Psychological Association).

Associate Editor David. A. Wolfe, PhD, RBC Chair in Children’s Mental Health, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, University of Toronto, ON David Wolfe is the first recipient of the RBC Chair in Children’s Mental Health at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and he is a Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Toronto. He is a fellow of the American Psychological Association and past President of Division 37 (Child, Youth, and Family Services). Dr. Wolfe has broad research and clinical interests in abnormal child and adolescent psychology, with a special focus on child abuse, domestic violence, and developmental psychopathology, and he has authored numerous articles and books on these topics. He and Peter Jaffe are currently evaluating the "Fourth R," which is a comprehensive school-based initiative for reducing adolescent risk behaviors through the promotion of positive, nonviolent relationships.
