Linux Systemadministrator (m/f/d)

Hogrefe, with psychology at its core, identifies, develops, and disseminates knowledge about human
experience. We create and publish scientifically based printed and electronic assessments, books, and
journals focused on psychology and psychiatry. We are the largest company in our field in Europe and
employ over 400 people world-wide.

Digital psychological testing is the core business of our "E-Assessment" development department. With a
lot of experience, expertise, inventiveness and creativity, the product development is done in-house at
Hogrefe. To strengthen our team at our headquarters in Göttingen, we are looking for a Linux
Systemadministrator (m/f/d) to start as soon as possible. We have several new software projects
starting soon and are looking for a new colleague with experience supporting us with those.

What will you be doing?

  • The task includes the management and development of the infrastructure based on Oracle, Apache, RHEL- and Debian-like systems
  • You monitor the platform and are responsible for finding solutions and implementing them in the event of a fault
  • You carry out the provision of new or changed content within the scope of releases on the platform
  • You are supporting our operations team to move our current asset form self-hosed to a data center
  • Introduce automation and orchestration to a further extend
     

In this role you will get to ...

  • Work closely with colleagues on the Operations and Engineering teams
  • Support us to implement new practices and workflows in automation, security and server orchestration
  • Review and improve the level of security in our very data sensitive department

Who are you?

  • You work in a structured way and maintain not only servers but also documentation
  • You have profound knowledge in operating and monitoring Linux-based servers (preferably Debian-like)
  • Ideally you have first experiences with configuration management tools (*Puppet*, Ansible, Saltstack or Chef) as well as server lifecycle management (Foreman, RedHat Satellite)
  • Knowledge of Bash, Ruby or Python scripting is desirable
  • You are experienced in operating and monitoring services such as:
    - Database: MariaDB
    - Application server: Tomcat/Wildfly
    - Web servers and proxies: Apache web server, NGINX, Traefik
  • You know what containers are and have had some experience with Docker or Podman
  • You know the concept of virtualizations
  • Willingness to learn and to develop a product together with us, even if the solution to problems cannot be found at Stackoverflow


We also value

  • You have very good German or English skills
  • Have experience working in the filed of certification: ISO, ISMS, LPIC-2
  • Motivation to stay current and continuously increase your knowledge, including participating meetups and conferences
