Hogrefe journals levy Article Publication Charges (APCs) in order to cover the costs of publishing the article open access, including editorial office and production services, abstract and indexing, online hosting and archiving. APCs may vary by journal so please refer to this website for more information on article publication charges.
Hogrefe Publishing offers a generous waiver program for eligible authors who have submitted a paper to one of Hogrefe’s open access journals. A 100% discount of the APC is provided to corresponding authors based in low- and middle-income countries (Research4Life Group A &B countries). Please see the list of eligible countries here.
Hogrefe Publishing will also consider individual requests for full waivers or discount requests from corresponding authors located in countries not currently listed. One or more of the following criteria must be fulfilled in order to be considered for a full waiver or discount:
Please apply for a waiver through the respective journal Editorial Manager system. Hogrefe Publishing staff will assess the waiver application when the revised manuscript is submitted.*
Waiver funds are limited and Hogrefe Publishing wishes to ensure that those authors who are most in financial need can take advantage of our waiver program. We therefore encourage authors to contact their institution or funder to confirm whether grants or other funding is available to cover journal APCs. Many institutions and/or funders have dedicated open access funds or block grants available. In some cases, funds to cover publication costs may be included in the budget of your research grant.
*Requests for full waivers or discounts are assessed by Hogrefe Publishing staff and not by journal editors. Authors should not contact journal editors to request waivers. Approval of a full waiver or discount request by Hogrefe Publishing staff will not influence the editorial process and final decision. Authors should not assume their article will be accepted for publication if Hogrefe Publishing staff approve the waiver.
