#13 Celebrating 70 years of the Griffiths Scales
This year, as we celebrate Hogrefe’s milestone 75th birthday, we also celebrate 70 years since the original publication of the Griffiths Scales of Child Development – recognising the important contributions that Dr Ruth Griffiths made in the field of child development. Undeterred by being a woman in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Dr Griffiths was a pioneering figure in the field of child development, championing a fresh approach and advancing our understanding through research. Now, 70 years later, we recognise how her incredible achievements changed the face of developmental assessment and celebrate her ongoing legacy.
We are proud to be a part of this legacy, initially publishing the Griffiths Mental Development Scales 0–2 and 2–8, and now the more recent Griffiths Scales of Child Development, Third Edition (Griffiths III). The Griffiths III brings the assessment up to date for new generations, whilst also retaining the unique qualities that made the previous editions so successful. With the iconic ‘brick blocks’, innovative Quiet Book, and bears ‘Griff’ and ‘Ruthie’, plus many other pieces of colourful and playful equipment, the child of 2024 can enjoy and engage with the testing process.
And across the globe, from India to Australia, from the UK to Brazil, professionals rely on the Griffiths Scales as the ‘gold standard’ child development assessment – continuing and building on the pioneering work of Dr Ruth Griffiths.
