Identifying a need

We have seen the rates for autism diagnosis – as well as autism diagnosis waiting times – increase dramatically in recent years, and the need for clinical assessments has followed suit. Different measures used at different stages of the autism care journey can lead to appropriate support being put into place, as well as the ongoing care and services needed most by autistic individuals.

Proven assessment and intervention tools can empower not only those with autism, but their families and caregivers, too. But understanding which assessments and interventions to use can be difficult. In order to illustrate this journey, Hogrefe UK created a video to showcase some of the best tools at every stage of life – from leading “whole child” developmental assessments such as the Griffiths III and IDS-2, to gold-standard ADOS-2 and ADI-R autism diagnostic tools, and award-winning interventions such as PACT.

And once the idea took shape, our marketing team set off to tell the story of the “autism care pathway” as a journey in assessments.

Our aim

To detail the complex autism care pathway from infanthood to adulthood in a clear, concise and universally-understood way. The animated journey follows the path from early years measures and interventions to diagnostic tools and practitioner training, and onward to assessments that support those grappling with a diagnosis – emotional processing and emotional regulation, for instance.

The development process

We ran it all by our trusted advisors for their feedback to make sure our story was accurate and true to the experiences of clinical practitioners – and most crucially, their patients with autism – in the UK health system. Once the storyboard and script were approved, the team was able to have a first peek at the animation coming together and to see our ideas come to life. A few iterations followed and, finally, we are pleased to deliver the end result.
