#6 Launching a new book program in Brazil

To enrich the Brazilian offer, we decided to bring some of Hogrefe Germany’s books to Brazil.

The first book in our new offering was the translation of the German book ‘The AMDP System’ from the Association for Methodology and Documentation in Psychiatry. As a result of this publication, we are now a proud partner of medical professionals at the Universidade de São Paulo, one of the best universities and research centers in South America.

Bringing new literature to Brazil makes it possible to build a network of local authors who also help us to increase our series "Ratgeber", currently with more than 20 titles written by Brazilian authors.

It all began with a practitioner’s guidebook series. The first Portuguese translation of the German edition of the Ratgeber ADHS by Doepfner, Froelich and Metternich and the Ratgeber Depression by Hautzinger triggered a domino effect. These were the basis for local Brazilian authors to write their own practitioners’ guidebooks and made it possible to increase our book program in Brazil much faster than we had imagined. Having already been focused on test publishing, we already had a strong network of test authors in Brazil, and more began to trust us with their book manuscripts, too. Thanks to our authors we have been able to grow in Brazil and establish a valuable and trustworthy brand for the Brazilian market over the past 8 years. Our books have high visibility, because their content is relevant and practical for psychologists and psychiatrists – but also for patients, who stumble upon publications in waiting rooms, discovering their interest in psychology.
