#3: Transforming scientific communication
The transformation of a long-established business model in scientific communication into a more modern, forward-thinking model.
It's a fact: publishing costs money and in recent years the costs have risen rather than fallen. To keep and improve the standards in scientific communication in every facet, adequate funding must continue.
In recent years, we have made considerable efforts to convert subscription-based journals into purely open access journals. Nowadays, payment is being made less and less for access to reading the content and more for publishing in open access (APCs). In 2020, Hogrefe entered into a pioneering agreement with the Göttingen State and University Library with regards to the open access transformation of Hogrefe's PsyJournals, also called Publish-And-Read agreements.
Participating institutions receive access to read the PsyJournals, and authors from participating institutions can publish their original open access articles in the transformative journals without being invoiced by Hogrefe. Approximately 20% of the articles published last year were made open access under the transformative agreement. We are proud to make an important contribution to the promotion of scientific communication and the free exchange of knowledge in psychology.
