Back to the future: Reflecting on ‘The Future of SpLD Assessment’
Earlier this month, we were delighted to host a special in-person event, ‘The Future of SpLD Assessment’, following a series of popular IDS-2 webinars over the past year.
With a view high over central London within the Royal College of Surgeons’ historic headquarters, the event drew a fantastic turnout of around 100 delegates, undeterred by widespread underground strikes and rainy skies. We opened the event with a warm welcome (and a ChatGPT-generated joke or two!), before introducing two of the authors of the Tests of Dyslexia (TOD) who had flown from Tennessee to present on the UK implications of the measure. They were followed by our own IDS-2 UK adaptor Anna Barnett, who presented on the IDS-2 with particular focus on executive functions.
The afternoon sessions continued to inspire. Partner organisation Praxis CPD presented on the ‘assessor landscape’ and the latest developments in SpLD assessment – plus Hogrefe Ltd’s assessment consultant Sarah Sainty explored flexible use of the IDS-2 and the TOD, complete with practical live demonstrations.
The wet weather outside did not dampen the enthusiasm in the room, with attendees clearly relishing the opportunity to come together face-to-face, explore the many test kits on display, and exchange ideas with fellow professionals.
Thank you to all those who joined us and, of course, to our wonderful presenters.
