Hogrefe School Partnership Programme

Take advantage of our paid data collection opportunity

Hogrefe is partnering with nurseries, schools and other organisations that serve children and adolescents 3 to 18 years of age to participate in the UK standardisation of the ADHD and Executive Functions Rating Scales (ATENTO). We are collecting data on a large sample of 1,200 children and young people but we need your help and collaboration to get there! All UK children ages 3 to 18 years are welcome to take part.

The data collection process

We are asking for nurseries and schools to reach out to parents/caregivers and teachers of children aged 3 – 18 years, who will then complete an ATENTO rating scale form about the child. Children 8 – 18 years old will also complete a self-report form.

Once an organisation agrees, we will help you with the specific process involved, which follows these general guidelines:

  • We work with a designated coordinator at the organisation to identify children who could participate, and confirm they are still needed for our sample (based on required ages, genders, and other demographic information to match the UK census).
  • Parents are first sent a link to complete a background questionnaire (and sign a consent form). Once checked over by Hogrefe, parents, teachers, and students aged 8+ are asked to complete a short questionnaire – a series of questions about how the student tends to act in certain situations. The answers are selected from a choice (e.g., on a scale from 'never' to 'always'), usually taking about 20 minutes.
  • Nursery/school staff can review our questionnaires before testing for reassurance before agreeing to participate.

About ATENTO

ATENTO is a multi-rater test that measures the attention and executive function skills of children and adolescents. It also assesses the level of impact their symptoms may have on family, school and social relationships. Professionals can use the results from ATENTO to develop tailored interventions to strengthen affected skills.

Data protection

Results are used anonymously, and all data is stored on a protected platform that is compliant with GDPR. We may ask specific questions to help identify the sample collected, but no single child (or parent or teacher), nor their results, can be identified within our system.

Please note that neither nurseries/schools nor parents will not receive any results and all names, demographic data and responses are kept strictly confidential.

Payment

Each organisation working with us on data collection will be compensated based on the number of children who meet our demographic criteria and have parental consent to participate. The minimum number is 10 children with a payment to the organisation of £300, with more compensation per additional child. The organisation can opt to use or split the compensation however works for them.

We would also offer a small payment (if allowed by the nursery/school's rules) to the staff coordinator helping to identify children for the study and sending questionnaire links to students, parents, and teachers.

Why is this project important?

We believe that children and young people deserve assessments that reflect the very latest research. Current ADHD assessments are using normative data collected in large part before the Covid pandemic had ended; with your help we aim to offer an updated assessment based entirely on the current ‘post pandemic’ generation of UK children and adolescents. We also aim to offer an extended look at not only ADHD but also other attention-related difficulties such as Sluggish Cognitive Tempo.

About Hogrefe

Some of our most familiar assessments include the original Rorschach® (ink blot) Test and the new Intelligence and Development Scales, Second Edition (IDS-2) – but our core publications also include assessments for children, adolescents, and adults in schools and mental health settings, and for organisations hiring or developing employees.

We want to establish relationships with schools across the country to ensure the tests we publish maintain the strong scientifically-based development process we are known for. In addition to our own portfolio, the Hogrefe Publishing Group have adapted and translated assessments such as the Wechsler products, ADOS-2, BRIEF2, Conners, and other popular and widely used assessments.

Our team here consists of professionals in psychology and SpLD assessment, as well as seasoned publishing and marketing executives. Our goal is to ensure that UK children and adolescents and their families have more UK-based data and assessments to best support their development.
