3D Secure is a form of two-factor authentication that is designed to make online credit card payments even more secure, and became mandatory for all online merchants in the European Union as of January 2021, as well as in some other areas of the world. We want to protect our customers all over the world as best as possible by make the purchase as secure as possible. That is why we offer the 3D Secure authentication procedure when paying by credit card to all our customers, and not just those in areas where it is mandatory.
3D Secure is a procedure for securing credit card payments on the internet and requires additional confirmation of identity, for example by entering a password or fingerprint. This helps eliminates the misuse of credit cards in online commerce. The procedures go by the names “Mastercard Identity Check,” “Verified by VISA,” and “American Express Safekey”.
The procedure is intended to prove that the credit card payment has indeed been initiated by the owner of the card. This additional security step became mandatory as of January 1, 2021 in the European Union, based on the second Payment Service Directive 2 of the European Union, which stipulates that customers must prove their identity twice for all electronic payments in the European Union.
