Intelligence and Development Scales® – 2nd Edition
2026
by Alexander Grob, Priska Hagmann-von Arx
Overview
The Intelligence and Development Scales – 2nd Edition (IDS-2) is a global cognitive assessment for children, adolescents, and young adults, designed to identify their knowledge, strengths, and relevant areas for development. In addition to providing an IQ score, the IDS-2 measures executive functions, psychomotor skills, social-emotional competence, scholastic skills, and motivation and attitude. With 30 subtests covering six domains and norms for ages 5-20.11, the IDS-2 makes it easy for the psychologist to personalize the testing session
Product Description
The new IDS-2 provides information on strengths and developmental needs, thus painting a picture of where support is needed to help the child, adolescent, or young adult achieve their full potential. Its flexible modular design is easily tailored by the psychologist, and booklets and record forms are color-coded for ease of use during the testing session.
Psychologists can use the assessment in the identification and diagnosing of intellectual disabilities and learning disorders, when evaluating cognitive and motor skills, and to help understand emotional strengths and weaknesses.

Norms
The US standardization sample included 1,420 children, adolescents, and young adults from 30 states, and matches the 2020 US Census data for region, race/ethnicity, and parental education. Norms for the IDS-2 were calculated using the state-of-the-art psychometric technique known as “continuous norming” that allows for more precise calculations, which are more appropriate for interpretation and intervention, particularly at the younger ages. Scoring is online through HTS, a platform designed by psychologists for psychologists, eliminating errors and removing the need for manual scoring. No license is necessary to use the platform and an IDS-2 scoring usage is included with the purchase of each paper record form.
